Polyspilota

Polyspilota is a slim, but tall genus of normal-type. Many colourvariants are known. Typical are the spot on the wings and the colourful arms. Also the threating- behaviour is very impressive.

Polyspilota inhabits bushes, trees and sparse vegetated areas, especially warm and dry territories.

The aggressiveness of this kind is very high. A community-keeping is possible up to L5 in maximum, afterwards at least the females have to be seperated.

At present, at least 10 species are described, e.g. Polyspilota aeruginosa (GOEZE, 1778), P. griffinii (GIGLIO-TOS, 1911) and P. robusta (ROY, 1989).

Typical look of the nymphs:

  • L2 and up: like bigger nymphs, no mimicry

Polyspilota is a beautifull mantis, which achieves handsome size. Because of their colourvariants, it is an enrichment for every terrarium.
